Jenn's Medieval Life

I would have to say that my biggest hobby is the SCA. What is the SCA? Glad you asked. SCA stands for The Society for Creative Anachronism. It is what I spend most of my free time doing. It is my main social group and it is also how I met my ex-husband. Basically, the SCA is a non-profit, educational organization that explores the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, not unlike groups that recreate the Civil War and other historical times. Members are encouraged to choose a time period and geographical area to research and pretend to be a person living in that place and time. My persona's name is Yana and you can find out more about her on her own page. As you will find out, my SCA interests center around Medieval Russia. For a more detailed description of the SCA check out the official page for The Society for Creative Anachronism.
Currently I live in the Middle Kingdom , in the Principality of Northshield, in the Barony of Jararvellir. I am originally from the Barony of Mag Mor in the Kingdom of Calontir, and I have also lived in the Barony of Wurm Wald (Middle Kingdom). A kingdom is really just a name for an administrative region that roughly corresponds to modern-day state borders.
Generally I spend most of my SCA time researching the Middle Ages in Russia, from the time period of about 800 CE to about 1650 CE, before Peter the Great ruled. I have a whole other page dedicated to links and resources that I use in my Medieval Slavic and Russian research. I also maintain the Russian Knowledge Page of the Slavic Interest Group. I actually wasn't interested in Russia when I joined the SCA, as can be seen from my SCA links.
