Wedding Progress and Updates

This page is intended to give everyone an idea of what is currently going on with the Russian wedding preparations. Check here for regular updates on how the whole shebang is doing.

March 23, 2001--Oh fer crying out loud, now I know why I don't keep a diary! The wedding has been postponed (again) for various reasons. We had a beautiful structure lined up to hold the wedding in, but the owner unfortunately passed away. Mordak has been unable to attend Pennsic the last two years, and this year Paul and I are very unlikely to attend (we both just got new jobs recently). We'd still like to do the wedding, and the next time we set a date, the wedding will happen, or we'll just forget the Pennsic idea and try something smaller. I'll (try to) keep everyone posted!

August 3, 1999--Hello again! Wow, it has been a really long time since I looked at these web pages. I have some bad news...the wedding is off for this year. Yes, I know it has been put off once before. Real-life got in the way again. Mordak is going on a belated honeymoon with his wife instead of going to Pennsic and Paul and I thought we might not be able to go to Pennsic at all, so we decide to reschedule the wedding again. Sorry about that. Plans are still being organized and discussed, so we still WANT to do it, it is just a matter of scheduling. And if Paul finds a permanent job before Pennsic next year, it may be off again. Oh well. In the meantime, be sure to check out the new Russian Knowledge Page that I run for the Slavic Interest Group.

October 15, 1998--Hello everyone! I have put up a page about the betrothal ceremony we had at this year's Pennsic. I think it went fairly well considering the humungous storm that popped up during it. I also have added some non-wedding pages to my site which you might want to go hunt down. One is on Russian cooking.

June 30, 1998--Yes. I'm still here. Sorry I haven't been able to update this page as much as I would like, but I have just recently finished a semester of school, moved to a new city, had to unpack and repack my belongings (insert long story about a flooded basement here) and sew costumes for the Shakespeare Festival I work for in the summer.
I promise I will get some more information up here soon..

April 9, 1998--I am currently working on gettting the text of the religious ceremony online so that people can see what is involved.

March 27, 1998--As of today, we the organizers (Ilyana Barsova and Mordak Sergeev syn Rostovskogo) have decided to reschedule the Russian wedding for next Pennsic (1999). We are hoping that this delay will allow time for more people to get involved in the planning and preparation for the actual ceremony.

As part of the restructuring, we have decided to have a betrothal (and dowry) celebration this year instead. We figure that the betrothal will be a good practice run for the wedding, allowing us to put on an authentic and well-organized wedding next year. A betrothal of some sort or another would have been part of a period Russian wedding, so our addition will actually add to the authenticity and overall feel of the event. We plan to have the betrothal filmed and documented just like the wedding will be. The betrothal will occur at Pennsic (1998) at the (now) annual Slavic Festival. Details on the time and location of the Festival will be coming soon. Please contact either Yana or Mordak if you would like to volunteer your time or person to be in the wedding. And a big spacibo (thank you) goes out to everyone who has been (and still is) involved in the wedding. We hope to see everyone at Pennsic 1998 and 1999.
