Persona Information: Anastasiia is the daughter of one of Ivan's Princes, and grew up in Moscow at the court. Her father is Iliia Labkovich Kiianin, a member of a noble family in Kiev that "moved" to Moscow shortly before it fell to the Polish armies. Her mother, Katarina Haraldsdottir, was a Lappish shield maiden who came to Russia seeking the murderer of her family. She took up the uncivilized ways of the Vikings as well as the sword after no one would assist in making the murderer pay. She had killed the honorless dog, and was sorely wounded when Iliia found her. Obviously, as he made sure she was taken care of, a romance of sorts blossomed, resulting the in the pious lady Anastasiia. Katarina passed to the Hall of the Valkyries as Anya entered the her teens, after making sure that Anya was able to defend herself, rather than able to support a household. Her father took care of the household training after Katrina's death as well as making sure she was active in Orthodoxy, by sending Anya to nearby convent for schooling. But Anya still made a stir in the Court enough to warrant Iliia sending her out to represent his trading intrests along with his partner Nafanial Eskovich Novgorodets. Nafe and Anya are about to become betrothed (Gulf Wars 2000) and will be married soon after.
SCA Interests: My period of interest is the late SCA-period Russia (time of Ivan IV) into the Time of Troubles. I'm also researching the history of the Orthodox church. In "Real Life" as well as in persona I am Russian Orthodox, although Anya is a bit more pious than Trish is. My Russian is attrocious, but I slog through with the help of a good knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet, and a dictionary. (Nothing more satisfying than translating that much needed reference, even if it takes six months...) I'm interested in learning to carve Russian bowls, spoons and so forth, but have decided that Iconography is a bit out of my league. I'm also going to learn to Feast and Event Steward, as well as learing to play the recorder that I recieved in my largess basket for Best Cultural Representation (Russian!) at the Elfsea Defender Embassy contest this year (1999). I'm wanting to learn to play balalaika, but have to save the money and find someone to teach me first.
Other Information: I am an Eastern European Studies Major at the Univerity of Texas at Arlington. I am currently Youth Rapier Marshal for the Barony of the Steppes. I started out in The Barony of Elfsea (Arlington/ Ft Worth) and still play there. I also play with Clan Firefall, a local service group. In the SCA I research that area, cook, sew, fight chivalric and am learning to fight rapier, help my Lord husband Nafanial in his brewing interests, and help in the Baronies as well as I can.
