Paul's Russian Wedding Article--Where it all began
Here is a listing of the people needed for the wedding. I will be asking people to take part but I would also like volunteers.
I will put down who has which part as I figure it out. Words in italics are the name or title of the person in Russian.
Because we want to make this wedding as simple as possible without taking away any of the period "feel", we've cut down on the number of participants. Hopefully this will encourage more people to come to the wedding if they don't think that they will get roped into being part of the cast! For a more detailed period description of the participant duties, see Paul's article.
Bride's family and friends
| Bride |
Yana Barsova yana@braid.freeservers.com |
| Uncle |
Mordak Rostovskogo Timofei'vich timbo@marcon.org |
Bridesmaid (druzhkal) can be male or female |
**This person makes sure the bride doesn't lose her head (or try to run away) before the ceremony begins** |
Groom's Family and Friends
| Groom |
Paul Wickenden of Thanet goldschp@yahoo.com |
| Captain (tysiatskii) |
**This position is optional. His duties include arranging the wedding (which is already done) and making sure everything runs smoothly** |
| Mother |
**This position is probably going to be filled by Paul's SCA Mom** |
| Best Man (druzhka) |
**This position is optional, he has pretty much the same duties as the modern "best man"** |
Other essential people in the ceremony
| Priest |
**This is pretty obvious, isn't it? |
| Priest's Helper |
**This person helps the priest by holding or fetching needed items** |
| Singers (We need a few more...) |
Sofron Havrylovych Trakhtemyriv'skij
kozak@multiverse.com |
| Musicians |
**This position isn't necessary for the ceremony itself, I just thought it'd be nice for the "reception"** |
Volunteer positions for anyone
- Coordinate, bring, or make any food items we decide to have-karavai, cheese, party foods
- Wedding hall decoration crew
- People to put cloth down in front of bridal procession, these can be people already in the ceremony.
- (If you read Paul's article you will see that the bride walks
upon lengths of cloth placed in front of her as she processes to where the ceremony is to be held. Kind of the Russian version of the "red carpet" treatment)
Please tell me what you think about the wedding idea
